Christmas Yams


  • 4 pounds yams (or sweet potatoes), wash, peel and cut to large thick round pieces
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup vanilla extract
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 stick of room temperature butter

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Arrange cut yams in a foil pan.

    Transfer to a nice Christmas Casserole dish and serve.

    Cube butter and drop pats a top of yams.

    In a medium bowl mix together cinnamon, nutmeg, water, vanilla and both sugars.

    Pour liquid over yams and bake for 2 hours.
